On the Peace of the Soul - St. Seraphim of Sarov

1855

To preserve the peace of the soul, we should remove from ourselves our despair, and take care to have a joyful, not sad spirit, in the words of Sirach (Sir. 30,25):  “Sorrow has destroyed many, and no advantage ever comes from it.”

For keeping the peace of the soul, also one should avoid a condemnation of others in every way. With non-condemnation and silence we keep the peace of the soul. In such a state one gains divine revelations.

For keeping the peace of the soul, one should more often go into oneself and ask oneself:  “Who am I”?

With that, he should be careful of physical senses, especially the sense of sight, to serve the inner man and not to scatter the soul, with sensuous objects. Because only those who have internal action and those who watch over their soul receive graceful gifts.
